Head of Client Partnerships and Strategy Advisor

Forward Action is looking for a Head of Client Partnerships and Strategy Advisor to join our innovative and fast-moving team.

You’ll play a key role in growing our organisation and its impact. You will strengthen relationships with the organisations we already work with and build them from scratch with new ones. You’ll be involved in the earliest stages of new projects, working out what strategy will best hit our clients’ goals then writing it up as a proposal. You’ll be involved in evaluating the results of projects and suggesting what work we can do next to deliver the most impact. And finally, you’ll work to establish Forward Action as a thought leader in charity digital campaigning, finding ways to share learnings from our innovations for the rest of the sector to benefit from.

This is a permanent role, with the freedom to work both in our London office and remotely from home (with regular travel into London required). You can work either four or five days a week.

Who we are

Forward Action is a full service digital agency for progressive causes. We come up with ideas for campaigns that get results, then do the work to create them. We have been in the engine room of some of the most successful election and charity digital campaigns of the last few years, helping our clients add millions of new supporters to their email lists, raise more money online (from more donors) and create campaigns that have led to real-world change.

Our clients are some of the most exciting and impactful organisations in campaigning, including Greenpeace, The ONE Campaign, Amnesty International, WaterAid, Centrepoint and SumOfUs.

What you’ll do as part of our team

  • Drive new business at Forward Action, helping set and then delivering our business development strategy
  • Plan our thought leadership strategy for sharing our learnings and insights with the rest of the charity sector
  • Meet with prospective clients to discuss their strategic needs and explore how Forward Action can help hit their goals – for example, mobilising supporters to join an email list, give a donation, or put pressure on a campaign target
  • Based on these conversations and briefs we receive, work out what strategy will best hit our clients’ goals (with input from our strategy team)
  • Draft pitches and proposals for prospective clients (and help deliver in-person pitches)
  • Run evaluation meetings with clients at the end of projects and help work out the most impactful piece of work we could do together next
  • Proactively find opportunities for Forward Action to speak at conferences and events, then put together and deliver presentations
  • Organise and attend evening drinks, coffee meetings and other social events with clients
  • Gather feedback from clients on their experience working with us to help ensure we continue to deliver outstanding work
  • Plan a content calendar for our blogs and social media channels, commission other team members to write content, and draft content yourself
  • Write up case studies for the Forward Action website
  • Attend concept generation meetings for the digital engagement tools Forward Action is well known for (example here)
  • Help set our organisation’s direction and culture and maintain our productive and kind working environment as part of Forward Action’s leadership team

Benefits and location

Pro Rata Salary: £45,328 – £50,184 if you live inside London, £40,471 – £44,807 (plus £3,000 travel expense allowance) if you live outside. Your salary within these ranges will be based on your experience. Every year you work with us, your salary will increase by inflation plus £1,619 in London/£1,445 outside London.

Contract Term: This is a permanent contract. The role can either be full time or four days a week.

Location: In our Hoxton office, with the option to work remotely. Ensuring our team is open to people who live outside London and enabling staff to work flexibly are important values to us, so you’ll have the freedom to work from home regularly. Many of our meetings are held via video conferencing, but you will often need to attend meetings with clients in London – on one or two days every week on average.

Holiday: 25 days/year (pro rata) plus a week off between Christmas and New Year.

Abilities and experience you’ll need to have

  • At least 3 years’ experience working in EITHER digital campaigning/digital fundraising OR business development and relationship building
  • If your experience is primarily in business development, a good knowledge of digital campaigns strategy/digital fundraising strategy is essential
  • Great verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organisation and attention-to-detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – this role needs someone who is comfortable meeting new people and initiating conversations at conferences and events
  • Being comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Dedication to helping build a fairer, more progressive society
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • A self-starter who is able to take the initiative in your work

We also love a quick learner. We don’t expect you to know or have done everything when you start – we’ll be looking for you to pick up new skills and knowledge quickly, then run with them.

Abilities and experience that are nice to have

  • Experience of proposal writing
  • Experience with social media marketing and/or blogging
  • Experience of presenting at pitches or internal meetings
  • Enthusiasm for thinking creatively and coming up with new ideas
